The best way to create content that attracts millions of likes is to continually experiment. That’s the approach Tim Chiusano takes, as vice president of content at Spectrum Reach, where he helps more than 2,000 companies achieve their marketing goals each year.
In addition to his day job, Tim also runs a popular restaurant. TikTok page, content that has received over 50 million likes. Through his videos, he makes people’s daily lives easier and changes the way they see the world.
Tim will now outline his social media strategy, along with advice for anyone looking to build an audience online.
How to define your content strategy
After years of posting online, Tim has amassed over 1 million followers by following four pillars of content development.
1. Experiment in your field of interest
If you want to know what kind of content will grow your audience, start by experimenting. Rather than sticking to one specific topic, cover your passions with the desire to share as much knowledge as possible.
Tim saw TikTok as a way to express and play around with his creative ideas. “I wanted to be in a position where I could experiment and have fun creating,” he says. He recommends going in with no expectations and creating content simply because you love it.
2. Respond to feedback
After Timm posts a TikTok video, he leaves it up to viewers to decide whether it’s a format worth pursuing. His analytical process is surprisingly simple. “Wait to see if[the content]is helpful, and if it is, make a mental note of it for when you plan your next move,” Tim says.
Tim started by covering all sorts of topics, including shoes, power bars, and sushi restaurants. Currently, he sticks to his two main categories. There are things you can put in your mouth and things you shouldn’t put in your mouth.
Consider engagement and track the most common feedback both online and offline. Tim almost always hears the phrase, “When you grow up, you’re less scary,” which motivates him to make more videos about living as an adult.
3. Express yourself
“The biggest differentiator in my content strategy is just being a human being, rather than trying to be something I’m not,” Tim says. If you can share a raw, unedited version of yourself, people will gravitate toward your advice and content.
Tim shares his thoughts and feelings for his audience to see, and he believes this is one of the main reasons people can’t stay away. “Everyone should look to themselves,” says Tim.
4. Always add value
At the end of the day, Tim understands that he needs to provide valuable information to keep people coming back for more videos. “There’s a wealth of information that we think would be useful to share, so we should always be creating content,” he says Timm.
Tim has spent decades in the corporate world. He is a father, son and husband with a wealth of experience. “By always having purpose as a pillar, you will always be able to deliver value,” he says.
Tim’s key content pillars have helped him develop a loyal audience that benefits from his content. Deciding what to share online can feel difficult, but start with some experiments and react to the feedback you collect.
