Atmosphere Core, an international hospitality company, announced its sustainability achievements across four pillars: community, operations, resources and environment. This environmentally conscious approach is evident through the company’s many impactful initiatives, including renewable energy infrastructure and water-saving technologies throughout the resort. In addition to company-wide projects, individual resorts are also considering innovative pilot projects such as OZEN LIFE MAADHOO’s vertical hydroponic garden and OBLU SELECT Sangeli’s in-house biogas facility.
“Sustainability is not an option. It is our ethos. We consider reuse, reduce and recycle. All resorts use a paperless, app-based reservation and check-in system. Our spa offers homemade candied orange peels, and all of our resort teams make constant efforts to maintain and improve our gardens year after year. The cumulative impact of the choices we make can result in lasting positive change. From conscious development to conserving resources to curating culturally connected experiences for our guests. Every decision we make is rooted in preserving the natural beauty that surrounds us in the enchanting islands of the Maldives,” commented Shrikant Dash, Deputy Managing Director, Corporate, Atmosphere Core. have a positive impact on the community
Recognizing the need to give back to local communities, Atmosphere Core has supported philanthropy and increased impact through the Atmosphere Foundation, a nonprofit, non-governmental organization. In two years, the Foundation has achieved important milestones. She has built a high-quality training kitchen for special needs students, implemented a reading program for 7,196 young people, and supported her health screening program for 590 seniors on local islands. .
Atmosphere Foundation is at the forefront of integrating responsible hospitality and climate protection programs by introducing bamboo plantations and cultivation not only at the group’s resorts, but also in its support programs for local communities. Bamboo is known for its exceptional carbon absorption rate, contributing to the goal of making the Maldives a carbon-free destination. Through its Bamboo for Climate Mitigation project, the Atmosphere Foundation has donated more than 4,000 sprouted seedlings, introduced seedlings to 27 islands, and collaborated with local governments on nine initiatives. This project covered all but her five atolls in the Maldives. More than 1,000 saplings have also been planted at resorts run by Atmosphere Core.
How the Sun Powers Atmosphere Core Resorts
Atmosphere Core is driving the solar revolution in the Maldives by maximizing every opportunity to power resorts with clean energy from the sun. In 2019, Atmosphere installed marine and rooftop solar power systems at OZEN LIFE MAADHOO. Since then, solar installations have expanded throughout the resort, and solar energy production has increased year over year. It will increase by 40% in 2022 and 14% in 2023.
As of May 2024, 8,890 solar panels have been installed across seven resorts, producing a cumulative 16,500 MWh of clean energy from 85 rooftop installations and 12 floating platforms. To put these numbers into perspective, Atmosphere Core’s use of solar energy saved him 4,459,459 liters of diesel, resulting in a cumulative reduction of 11,951 tons of CO2 emissions.
Efforts to protect corals
At the resorts within Atmosphere Core’s portfolio, environmental considerations play a central role, with a particular focus on coral conservation. Of our portfolio of nine resorts, seven resorts actively manage coral conservation programs and four resorts have dedicated marine biologists. In 2023, a total of 279 coral frames were installed in the Atmosphere Core area, and approximately 13,436 coral fragments were installed. His 21 new frames were installed throughout the resort in the first quarter of 2024. With continued monitoring and maintenance, coral debris has become attached to the frame and new branches have begun to grow. Over the years, coral breeding has allowed these sanctuaries to thrive with live coral that attracts marine life including parrotfish, snapper, eagle rays, sharks, and other invertebrates.
All Atmosphere Core resorts are Green Globe certified for environmental sustainability, with OZEN RESERVE BOLIFUSHI and OBLU NATURE Helengeli by SENTIDO achieving Gold certification. With a 10% global market share, Green Globe is one of the most preferred sustainability certifications for resorts, allowing them to pass audits on 44 key environmental standards and up to 380 compliance indicators, depending on the destination. You will be asked for it.
