UnionPay International (upiand National ITMX (NITMX) have partnered to integrate China’s union payment system with Thailand’s PromptPay.
In the early stages of this collaboration, Chinese tourists can pay via Thai merchants’ PromptPay QR codes using the UnionPay app, particularly the Yunshanfu app.
This reflects the payment experience they have in China.
Thai tourists can then use UnionPay QR codes for payments within China.
The agreement was formalized through a signature ceremony attended by officials from the financial sector in both countries, seeking to streamline digital payments for travelers between China and Thailand.
The partnership will extend the use of the Yun Shan Phoo app in popular Thai tourist destinations such as Bangkok, Phuket and Chiang Mai, allowing users to scan PromptPay QR codes like in the country.
NITMX is also actively working with other Chinese payment providers to further enhance cross-border payment capabilities.
