Syngenta Seeds North America celebrated the grand reopening of its Alba Research and Development (R&D) Innovation Center this week, revealing its $2 million renovated offices and labs, the first major update to the facility in 30 years.
The Arva R&D Innovation Centre sits on 100 acres just north of London, Ontario. Owned by the former Syngenta company since 1989, it includes 30,000 square feet of office space and outbuildings, and is home to seed breeding, seed treatment and field research trials. New traits and genetics being tested at the facility include NK corn and soybean, Enogen corn hybrids and Silverline soybeans.
“Our investment in this facility will enable greater collaboration across the seed value chain, improve product positioning, increase performance reliability and ultimately lead to increased yields for Canadian growers,” said Dan Wright, head of Enogen and Syngenta Seed Canada.
The Arva R&D Innovation Centre employs 70 people and is one of more than 150 Syngenta R&D and production sites worldwide with a total annual investment of $1.4 billion (USD).
“We’ve built an innovation ecosystem with strategically located facilities across North America, and our speed to market is due in large part to the investments we make in our facilities and people,” said Eric Boeck, regional director, NA Seeds. “We’re focused on improving germplasm performance, launching and building next-generation differentiating traits, and demonstrating sustainable cultivation systems that benefit farmers, consumers and the planet.”
