The Maldives welcomed its one millionth tourist of the year on Thursday.
The one millionth tourist was Sutapa Amonwiwat, a Thai national who arrived from Singapore with her husband and two children on her second visit to the Maldives.
Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) and the Ministry of Tourism accorded Sutapa a warm welcome on Thursday afternoon at Velana International Airport (VIA), where he was received by Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal, MMPRC Managing Director Ibrahim Shuuri and senior officials from various relevant agencies.
Following a traditional welcome with offerings, various gifts were presented by Ministries, Maldives People’s Committee, Customs, Immigration, Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) and Trans Maldivian Airlines (TMA).
The Maldives reached the one million tourist milestone in June, three weeks earlier than last year. The one million tourist arrival date is set for July 16, 2023.
