Located on a beautiful natural island in South Male Atoll and surrounded by the crystal clear waters of a lagoon, Anantara Dhigu Maldives Resort has reintroduced its completely revamped Over Water Villas after an extensive four-month renovation. With a complete interior makeover and the installation of four new pools, the Maldives playground is ready to lure couples and families into vacation mode.
Inspired by the shape of Maldivian boats and the sight of ships sailing on the tranquil Maldivian waters, the design concept of the overwater villas revolves around the theme of “Serenity Sailing Boat”. Steven O’Dell of award-winning architecture and interior design firm SODA (Thailand) Ltd., along with his team, translated this concept into the interior design by reflecting the flowing lines and serene atmosphere of a sea voyage, creating a space that blends the beauty of the surrounding waters within the villas, aimed at providing relaxation and comfort to guests.
Set in a crystal clear lagoon surrounding a beautiful natural island, the interiors of the 40 Over Water Villas are decorated with colours that give the villas a natural feel. Warm neutral tones give guests a sense of comfort, while blue accents that reflect the water’s surface blend in with the furnishings. Outside, the addition of over water hammocks in the Sunrise and Sunset Over Water Villas creates a fun and clever play on space.
Balancing functionality and design for a resort villa is a unique challenge for any interior designer, but Steven and his team have succeeded in providing practical, comfortable spaces and ensuring the villas are a Maldivian haven where guests can unwind, escape, relax and rejuvenate in their island paradise.
The renovation of Anantara Dhigu’s Over-Water Villas also sees the introduction of four new Deluxe Sunset Over-Water Pool Villas. The existing Sunset Over-Water Villas have been renovated with the addition of larger infinity pools, increasing the availability of the highly popular sunset-facing pool villas. The most exclusive villa in Anantara Dhigu’s Over-Water Villa category offers 129 square metres of luxurious space and direct access to the crystal blue waters of the lagoon.
Following the completion of the Over Water Villas renovation, Anantara Dhigu Maldives Resort will undergo several renovations later this year, including the addition of a luxury bar, The Yellow Fin Club. The new bar will join the resort’s numerous dining spaces where guests can enjoy the finest cuisine from around the world while learning about new and old wines from the resort’s wine guru. Guests can choose from a variety of options, including expertly grilled meats and fresh seafood from local waters at Sea.Fire.Salt., healthy Italian cuisine at Aqua, and breakfast and themed dinner buffets at Fushi Café.
Located on the neighbouring sister island of Anantara Veli Maldives Resort, Origami serves modern Japanese cuisine including teppanyaki and robatayaki, Cumin offers Sri Lankan, Indian and Maldivian dishes and Dhoni Bar specialises in Mediterranean tapas. Over the water, on the edge of the lagoon and outer reef, Baan Hula serves southern Thai coconut curries and spicy northern dishes.
Guests can also dine outside the restaurant, with access to Anantara’s signature Designer Dining by Anantara, curated by a private chef and sommelier.
Whether seeking tranquility or reconnecting, travellers will find a range of water and land-based activities. Guests can enjoy the thrill of underwater exploration with Aquafanatics, the resort’s resident water sports partner, ride the waves with resident experts Tropicsurf during surf season or get involved in the resort’s habitat conservation efforts by adopting coral as part of Anantara’s sustainability program with resident marine biologists.
On land, there’s fun to be had with tennis courts, dedicated spaces for volleyball, badminton, table tennis, chess and pétanque, and a well-equipped fitness centre. Guests can book a fitness session with a personal trainer or test their skills in the boxing ring. For quieter activities, guests can book a cooking class at Spice Spoons by Anantara, rejuvenate at the overwater Anantara Spa or relax in the infinity pool.
