The Bristol Hoteliers Association (BHA) is funding a two-day mental health course for hospitality workers across the city.
Over a dozen seats will be available for the first course, to be held at the Bristol Hotel in June, and these seats will be available to all BHA members.
BHA Chairman Rafael Herzog said: “We know that more and more people are suffering from mental health issues as a result of the pandemic and cost of living crisis.
“The effects of Brexit, the pandemic and the economic climate have had a huge impact on our industry. You only need to look at the number of hospitality businesses that have been forced to close in recent years to see the impact.
“It creates a lot of uncertainty as people become understandably concerned about their jobs and incomes and the impact that will have on their families.
“As we had a small amount of funding, we thought it was important to use some of it for training. We hope to have more than 12 people to run the second course. .”
“Our aim is to ensure we have a strong base of trained mental health first aid within the BHA.
“Our hope is that eventually more people in all BHA hotels will be trained so that if they feel they need to talk to someone about a mental health issue, they will be able to do so by a colleague. It is to become.
“Of course, some people may not feel comfortable talking to people who work in the same hotel, so we will publish a list of people within the BHA who have been trained in mental health first aid.
“Anyone working at a BHA hotel, whether they work at the same hotel or not, can approach a trained employee to talk to them and ask for help or advice.
“Hospitality is a very people-oriented field and it is vital that we do everything we can to look after our employees who have worked so hard over the past few years during these difficult times. .”
