With the spring fire season starting early and heating up in Western Canada, there’s no better time than today to start working on your fire prevention plan. Most growers sow outdoors, increasing the risk of wildfires.
In this interview, Kaia Fossheim from AgSafe Alberta provides an overview of fire mitigation, prevention, and planning on your farm. Fosheim also gave us some examples of what producers are currently doing to control fires on their farms.
A fire-prone situation can occur as grass builds up around the engine, the exhaust pipe gets hot, and electrical problems with equipment can occur. Prevention is key and this ranges from simple tasks such as modern equipment maintenance and cleaning and spark arresters to more complex tasks such as installing fire breaks and removing deadfall.
