Weaverline says it is developing a science-based battery-powered feeding cart. That’s a big statement, but Frank Weaver says his family-run company has the experience to back up his claim.
The Narvon, Pennsylvania-based company has been building electric feed carts since 1965. At the Canadian Dairy XPO in Stratford, Ontario, Mr. Weaver displayed his Series 5 high-speed feed silage cart with a hydrostatic drive and stainless steel conveyor system. “It went really well,” he says. “It’s quiet, smokeless, easy to operate, he just flips a switch and it’s working. Life is simple.”
The cart comes in four sizes: 21, 25, 31, and 37 bushel capacities. Weaver said the 31-bushel cart can hold about 1,000 pounds of his corn silage and takes about a minute to unload.
In the report, Weaver said the cart is highly maneuverable and can be moved around any barn because it “stops on a dime.” He added that the cart is suitable for sheep and goat farms as well as dairy tie stall operations. Series 5 machines also play an important role in the management of dairy calves and heifers. “If you have a calf pen next to you, if you have a sick pen next to you, or if you have dry cows… it’s a very easy way to feed them.” Watch the video report below.
