Federal Agriculture Minister Lawrence Macaulay has announced the appointment of David Hunt as the new Chief Commissioner of the Canadian Grain Board.
Hunt takes his place. Doug Chorney’s term expires at the end of April. Mr. Choney chose not to reapply for the job.
Mr. Hunt has been with the Manitoba Government since 2007, starting as a swine extension specialist and then leading the livestock division of the agriculture department. He served as Assistant Deputy Minister in the Manitoba Ministry of Agriculture from 2015 to 2023, and most recently as Assistant Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change.

Mr. Hunt’s four-year term as CGC Chief Commissioner begins on May 13, 2024.
Hunt will work alongside Deputy Chief Commissioner Patti Rosher, whose four-year term expires in February 2025.
Last month, Macaulay announced that he would reappoint Saskatchewan’s Ronnie McCaig to a three-year term as CGC commissioner, eliminating the three commissioners who lead the grain commission.
