What do dairy farmers look for when sourcing sawdust bedding for their cows?
Pat Liu, director of business development for EcoStrat, which sells cattle bedding to farmers across North America, says, “Some farmers want a finer product, some prefer a coarser product, but not everyone wants a dry product.” “I want the sawdust that was left behind.”
The company has been in the paper, plastics and metal industries for 25 years and ultimately found a niche in the wood industry, helping pallet manufacturers, sawmills and cabinet makers deal with wood waste and sawdust. doing.
“Eventually, we started buying sawdust, packaging it and reselling it to the market,” says Liu. “We were selling it as greenhouse heating fuel, and we realized there was a huge market for dairy farmers in Ontario.”
Last month, Liu and his team spent two days talking with dairy customers at the Canadian Dairy XPO in Stratford, Ont. Ecostrat has been supplying Ontario farmers for his 10 years, offering a wide range of products including dry wood shavings, fine wood grinding, wood flour and green sawdust, from Chatham in the west to Chatham in the east. We source from all parts of Ontario, all the way to Cornwall. and north to Kirkland Lake.
