Alipay+, the cross-border mobile payment and digitization platform by Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and Ant International, has announced new developments to attract more tourists to Thailand and improve the travel experience. We have expanded our partnership.
Thailand remains the top destination for Chinese tourists, with more than 2.3 million visitors in the first four months of 2024. During the 2024 Labor Day holiday, transactions via Alipay in Thailand surged 161% compared to 2023, surpassing pre-pandemic levels.
To cater to mobile-savvy travelers, TAT will introduce Alipay+ D-Hub and Amazing Thailand e-card exclusively for Chinese tourists, and later expand to other Alipay+ users.
Alipay+ D Hub, a customizable mini-program, provides essential travel information, local merchant recommendations, and guides to Thailand destinations.
The Amazing Thailand eCard connects local businesses with tourists, offers unique promotions, and increases awareness of Thailand’s tourism services.
In early 2024, Alipay+ launched the Alipay+ D Store in Thailand, allowing users to order, customize, and pay directly via their mobile device by scanning the store’s QR code.
Alipay+ has expanded its merchant reach in Thailand, allowing users of 14 major international payment apps to pay at over 400,000 merchants, including smaller regions. Alipay+ will soon be accepted on the Bangkok Public Transport System (BTS).
‘A Thai+ Experience’ campaign promotes unique Thai experiences. The selected influencer will highlight his favorite sellers in secondary cities available on the TAT website and his Alipay + D-hub.
Voucher packs, which can be used across the country, encourage tourists to explore these cities and shops.
Edward Yue, General Manager of Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand and Global Strategic Partnerships at Ant International, said:
“The Tourism Authority of Thailand has been at the forefront of digitizing Thailand’s tourism industry, improving the experience for tourists and local businesses. Alipay+ supports these efforts through mobile payments, marketing, and widespread digitization. We’re really looking forward to the real benefits it will bring to our community.
Building on the success of our partnership, we will jointly continue to bring innovation to Thailand, allowing today’s mobile-savvy travelers to fully immerse themselves in uniquely Thai experiences, including discovering, shopping, and dining using just their mobile phone. I will continue to do so. ”
Chattan Kunjara Na Ayudhya, Deputy Governor, TAT Asia and South Pacific International Marketing, said:
“We are happy to see that Alipay+ transactions are growing rapidly. With the further expansion of Alipay+ coverage, transactions will only continue to increase, especially in smaller cities, and will contribute to the economy across Thailand, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Stimulate the economy.
We are taking the next step to strengthen our partnership with new digital innovations for Chinese tourists, Thailand’s largest market, and will continue to expand these innovations to more tourists in the future. ”
