Cover crops do a variety of things, including holding soil in place, cycling nutrients, suppressing weed growth, and fixing nitrogen. Also, if not properly terminated, it may interfere with the planting or sowing of the next crop.
There are several options for terminating cover crops. selection of winter-killing species (in most cases!), herbicides, cutting or grazing, tillage, or some combination of these.
