A fast-growing and highly destructive stripe rust disease is occurring in winter wheat fields across Ontario.
RealAgriculture agronomist Peter Johnson says the disease is a significant threat to crops and can cause yield losses of up to 50% if not properly managed. He stresses that timely fungicide applications are key to controlling the disease.
In the report, Johnson says regular field surveys are essential for early detection and effective management of stripe rust. He also provides tips on fungicides, how to identify the disease, and how to differentiate it from physiological spot disease. Growers can identify this disease by looking for the characteristic yellow or orange pustules that leave an orange color on the fingers.
