Why is it good to have phosphate and sulfur together?
Research has shown that applying both phosphate and sulfur in a nutrient management program has a synergistic effect. “When applied together, phosphate and sulfur provide yield benefits that are not available when one of these nutrients is omitted,” explains Dr. Karl Wyant, Director of Nutrien Agronomy. To do. “One plus one equals four.”
We know that conditions that promote phosphate deficiency can also promote sulfur deficiency. Acid soil, low organic matter, coarse texture, too wet or too dry, low temperature, low oxygen. “These two nutrients work together, so incorporating them into a balanced nutritional plan can produce amazing results in the field,” says Wyant.
the evidence is on the scene
“In three years of corn testing at numerous sites in the Midwest, we have found that MAP alone yields an average of 189 bushels per acre. By promoting synergies, we are achieving an average yield of 204 bushels per acre,” explains Wyant. This jump in yields is of great benefit to growers.
