Now in its fourth year, the Manitoba Crop Alliance is amalgamating five grower groups and moving forward from operating as an organization to developing ambitious plans for its next strategic plan.
The organization, which represents Manitoba’s spring wheat, winter wheat, flax, sunflower and barley growers, has improved communications, innovative research and increased local value as its vision for the next three years.
Pam de Roquiney, CEO of the Manitoba Crops Federation, says the strategic plan is intentionally concise, with three broad goals supported by three incremental objectives: The broad goals will be implemented over the three-year planning period, while the end goals will be achieved in the short term.
She adds that research goals and value-add goals work hand in hand: If a gap is found in the value-add work, the research goal may be able to fill it in with the information needed to move forward.
The communications part is also working for the two organizations, and de Rocquigny says connecting with all 7,700 members is an ongoing challenge. Sharing all that the Manitoba Crop Alliance is doing and accomplishing is key, and it needs to be shared in a way that actually reaches farmers, she says.
