This is a frustrating problem farmers face when stacking bales: They need a few more inches of loader reach to stack the bales, but the loader is just a little short.
That’s the challenge Stoll is trying to solve, especially for farmers who use four-cylinder medium-sized tractors, which are popular for front-loader work. The German machinery manufacturer’s answer to this conundrum is its telescoping front loader, or X-Tra Lift concept. The machine won a silver medal at the 2023 Agritechnica Innovation Awards in Hannover, Germany.
In this report, Torben Meyer, International Sales Manager at Stoll, explains how the company’s new loader, designed for four-cylinder medium tractors, is equipped with a telescopic swing arm and telescopic joint. The combination of the telescopic joint and swing arm makes it possible to increase the loader’s horizontal reach by one metre and its lifting height by up to 1.5 metres.
Front loaders should be especially useful for handling round and square bales on farms that don’t have the volume of work to install a telehandler, Meyer said, adding that telescopic loaders are better suited for livestock operations and should target tractors with 130 to 200 horsepower.
