The conference’s name pays homage to New York’s historic Greenwich Village neighborhood, where PubKey is located. It’s also a play on Nostrville, the name of the 2023 Nostr conference in Nashville, Tennessee, which was attended by Daniel Modell, PubKey’s head of marketing and Nostr Village organizer.
“Nostr is something I was involved with before I joined PubKey and wanted more people to know about it,” Modell told Bitcoin Magazine at the event.
“We are still in the early stages of Nostre adoption, so just like early Bitcoin, we need to be the ones spreading the word,” he added.
The atmosphere at Nostr Village was a lot like I imagine a small Bitcoin conference would be like in Bitcoin’s fourth year (Nostr started in November 2020): inspiring, enlightening, and a little awkward, since Nostr is still a very early technology and no one is quite sure what it’s going to be.
However, with so many active Nostr users at the event, there was no shortage of people sharing their understanding of Nostr to educate other attendees.
Panels like “Design and Code: It’s All About User Experience” and “Value and Community: Nostr is for Creators” featured everyone from developers to creators helping to expand attendees’ knowledge base.
Avi Brar, author of a Bitcoin fiction book twenty four And the host PrevChain Radio The podcast producer participated in two panels, “You Can’t Cancel This: Resisting Censorship on Nostr” and “Nostr for Noobs,” where he emphasized that Nostr is more than just a decentralized social media platform.
“The biggest misconception about Nostr is that it’s just a social media app,” Burra told Bitcoin Magazine at the event.
“We hope that Nostl’s design at the protocol level will enable not only a truly censorship-resistant communications platform, but also other things that can be built on top of it, such as alternatives to YouTube and Spotify,” he added.
(Editor’s note: Sam Means, Wavlakea music streaming platform built on Nostr that allows fans to stream soil The event was attended by the company behind Spotify Play, a music streaming service to your favorite musicians that serves as an alternative to Spotify’s model.
Barra also noted that the event was a huge success because it gave “Nostrichis” (slang for Nostri’s most dedicated users) a chance to connect in the real world.
However, not everyone at the event was a Nostr professional: some attendees wanted to learn more about what Nostr is and how to use the Nostr client. primitive, Flock Star and Coracle.
Parker Worthington, Director My faith in you is gone, documentary BTC Pay Serveralso attended the event and commented on how important such events are for people new to the Nostr field.
“One of the things I like about smaller Bitcoin and Nostles meetups is that there are always people in the room who have never heard of Bitcoin or Nostles,” Worthington told Bitcoin Magazine at the event.
“They were immediately impacted and now they have the ability to go to this group,” he added.
While the event wasn’t technically a meetup, it had the feel of an extended meetup, which was part of Modell’s intention.
“What we do at PubKey is different from a traditional Bitcoin conference because we think of ourselves as almost an anti-conference space,” Modell explained.
“We’re doing these smaller events, but people who weren’t here, who were watching on the live stream, Zap Stream “There were posts like, ‘This is a real conference,'” he added.
It was a real conference, and Modell said it would likely be the first of many to come.
“I would love to have Nostl Village every year to see us grow year by year and see what technologies develop with Nostl,” Modell concluded. “We only started doing this (teaching each other about Nostl) a short time ago, so there is still a lot to do.”
