Alila Kotaifaru Maldives, a luxury eco-resort nestled in the pristine Raa Atoll, has announced the launch of its latest initiative in partnership with Giving Bag, an innovative amenity program aimed at blending sustainability efforts with community support by offering guests the opportunity to contribute to a local orphanage while reducing waste.
The Giving Bag concept is simple yet impactful: each room at Alila Kotaifaru is equipped with a dedicated bag for guests to place their unwanted clothes and snorkelling gear in. These items are collected by the resort’s Green Team, washed, and delivered to Kuda Kudinge Hiya Orphanage. By reusing gently used clothing, the initiative not only helps those in need, but also promotes sustainable practices by extending the life of clothing and reducing textile waste.
The resort’s green team met with the Ministry of Social and Family Development to discuss collaborative efforts. During the meeting, Deputy Minister Aminath Namza highlighted efforts to foster compassion and love in society, such as a new adoption program and internships for orphans. She stressed that “through collaboration, we can create a society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.”
“At Alila Kotaifaru Maldives, we are committed to making a positive impact on both the environment and the local community,” said Thomas Weber, General Manager, Alila Kotaifaru Maldives. “Partnering with Giving Bags aligns perfectly with our sustainability goals of promoting reuse and reducing waste. Additionally, we are delighted to support Kuda Kudinge Hiya Orphanage and contribute to the welfare of local children.”
“Giving Bag is proud to partner with Alila Kotaifaru Maldives to support Kuda Kudinge Hiya Orphanage,” said Quinn Cox, CEO of Giving Bag. “Alila Hotels & Resorts is a leader in sustainability and environmental protection, and we are thrilled to continue to expand Giving Bag to new locations around the world. Giving Bag was created to help travelers and hotels make a powerful impact in their communities, and we are confident that Alila Kotaifaru Maldives will be able to do just that.”
Kuda Kudinge Hiya Orphanage is a non-profit organisation that aims to provide shelter, education and support to orphaned and disadvantaged children in the Maldives. Through partnerships with local businesses such as Alila Kotaifaru Maldives, the orphanage aims to create a nurturing environment where children can grow and reach their potential.
Alila Kotaifaru Maldives’ partnership with the Giving Bag Initiative embodies the resort’s commitment to sustainability, community engagement and responsible tourism practices. By inviting guests to join this worthwhile initiative, the resort hopes to inspire others to take action and make a positive change in the world.
