Wards Auto has released its mini vehicle sales forecast for May. U.S. light vehicle sales expected to continue growing slowly but steadily in 2024 (Paid site)
Further supporting the 2024 theme, May’s growth was primarily concentrated in the most affordable CUV and passenger car segments. Other sectors recorded sporadic gains or were in steady declines for the first five months of 2024. This includes several sectors, such as full-size pickups, which are coming off a long period of strong performance. The stronger market so far in 2024 has been in the more affordable small and mid-size CUVs and small sedans.
This chart shows light vehicle sales since 2006 according to BEA (blue) and Wards Auto’s May estimates (red).
Sales in May (15.9 million units based on SAAR) increased 1.0% from April and 2.5% from May 2023.
The second chart shows light vehicle sales since 1967, when BEA began collecting data. May sales were in line with consensus expectations.
