America has two choices: do what is necessary to strengthen domestic manufacturing in key industries, or cede our energy future to China.
Editor’s note: This message was originally sent by Federation of American Manufacturing (AAM) President Scott Paul in a message to AAM’s grassroots email supporters.
In the 1970s, America learned the hard way what happens when we rely on other countries for our energy needs: we fought wars, lost American lives, and were subject to the whims of oil oligarchs.
And during the COVID-19 pandemic, the United States once again learned the hard way what happens when it becomes dependent on a rival country like China for even critical supplies and medicines.
Today, the United States is on track to become dependent on China for nearly all of its energy needs, from the electricity in our homes to the cars on our roads. But if we can maintain or raise tariffs on Chinese goods while making smart investments at home, that could be different this time.
Take action: Tell Congress that America’s energy future must be American made!
The United States is rightly building industries like solar power, electric vehicles, wind turbines, and semiconductors, as well as nuclear, natural gas, etc. The goal is to ensure that America is able to manufacture what we need to power the future.
But the Chinese government is determined to control these industries. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is overseeing efforts to flood global markets with artificially cheap goods in order to drive competitors out of business and create a global monopoly.
Controlling the U.S. market is part of the Chinese Communist Party’s strategy, and its plan will succeed if the United States cannot stop Chinese imports from overwhelming the U.S. market.
