UOB Thailand has announced the appointment of Richard Maloney as its new CEO, effective July 1, 2024.
Mr. Maloney has 40 years of experience in wholesale banking, capital markets and retail banking.
Since joining the company UOB In 2014, he was appointed Chief Operating Officer of Group Wholesale Banking, where he has been responsible for driving business growth through strategic development and execution.
Prior to joining UOB, Maloney served as Chief Operating Officer for ASEAN at a global bank and has experience working in New York, London, Hong Kong and Singapore.
In his new role, Maloney will focus on strengthening UOB Thailand’s digital capabilities, expanding product offerings and connecting clients with market opportunities in Thailand and across UOB Group’s regional network.
Maloney’s predecessor Tan Chun HinHe has led UOB Thailand since 2016 and will return to Singapore to take up a new role as deputy head of group governance, risk and compliance.
Mr Tan joined UOB in 2012 as Group Head of Credit (Retail) and was appointed CEO of UOB Thailand in 2016. Under his leadership, UOB Thailand has become the second largest foreign bank in Thailand and one of the top three card issuers in the country.
As deputy head of group governance, risk and compliance, Tan will strengthen the bank’s risk management and enhance governance across the organisation.
Meanwhile, Vira Anon C. Putrakul will take on the role of head of wholesale banking and deputy CEO of UOB Thailand.
She previously headed retail and brand at UOB Thailand and, prior to joining UOB in 2022, held senior roles in both retail and wholesale banking at Citibank Thailand.
UOB has operated in Thailand for more than 20 years and completed the acquisition of Citigroup’s consumer banking business in Thailand in November 2022.
With this acquisition expansion It will provide UOB Thailand’s products and services to a larger customer base.
