Six Senses Laamu has announced that PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) has awarded the resort with the “Outstanding Contribution to Marine Conservation” award in recognition of the resort’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable tourism. The award highlights Six Senses Laamu’s ongoing efforts to protect the unique marine ecosystem of Laamu Atoll in the Maldives.
The Outstanding Contribution to Marine Conservation Award is presented to a dive center that has demonstrated exemplary efforts in environmental education, conservation projects and sustainable operations. Six Senses Laamu’s dive center, Deep Blue Divers, plays a key role in conservation programs led by Six Senses Laamu’s Maldives Underwater Initiative (MUI). These programs include coral reef restoration, marine life monitoring, awareness raising and community and guest education. The resort’s efforts have established a benchmark for sustainable tourism in the Maldives, earning Deep Blue Divers the honor of being one of only two dive centers in the country to receive the PADI Excellence Award in 2024.
In addition to receiving the PADI Award of Excellence, both dive centers at the brand’s northern Maldives resorts, Six Senses Laamu and Six Senses Kanuhura, have been officially certified as PADI Eco Centers. This prestigious status is awarded to dive centers that adhere to the highest standards of environmental responsibility and actively participate in marine conservation efforts. Deep Blue Divers has played a key role by promoting sustainable diving practices and offering environmentally conscious dive experiences, including specialized courses in partnership with NGOs and engaging guests in marine conservation efforts.
