Although small plot studies allow for well-controlled research, it can be difficult for farmers to implement new discoveries at farm scale. Variations in environment, soil, topography and equipment can alter the results of a method that may have worked very well on a small plot.
One way to overcome the issues growers experience when implementing new practices on their farm is to utilize on-farm research, which can help mitigate some of the risk between plot research and when growers start investing in these practices across their farm.
this Canola School, Kaeley Kindrachuk of SaskCanola talks about the importance of conducting replicated, randomized, field-scale trials on growers’ farms: On-farm studies allow farmers to combine existing equipment with management practices they rely on to test methods in the field.
Watch the video to find out more about how on-farm canola research works, how to get support for your new trial ideas, and the benefits of this style of research.
