The award recognizes professionals in both the medical and nursing industries.
The PharmaTimes Medical & Scientific Awards (MSEA) and Nursing Industry Excellence Awards (NIEA) recognised outstanding work from healthcare professionals and the nursing industry on 11 July.
The event, held at the Royal Horseguards Hotel in London, began with a reception after which guests sat down and eagerly waited to find out who the NIEA and MSEA 2024 winners would be.
Former NHS mental health clinical lead and psychotherapist, who took to the stage to welcome guests, The Sunday Times Best-selling author Owen O’Kane hosted this year’s ceremony, which featured seven categories and two special NIEA awards.
Kicking off with the MSEA, which was revived for the first time since 2019, the ceremony’s first award, the “Newcomer Medical Science Liaison of the Year” was presented to Dr Ana Cruz of Novo Nordisk, followed by the “Experienced Medical Science Liaison of the Year” sponsored by Datapharm, presented to Dr Fetih Sadouqi of Novo Nordisk.
The ceremony then moved on to the NIEA Awards where two sponsored awards were presented: the Innovation Excellence Award to Inizio, presented to Natalie Bingham, Jade Mikkelsen and Holly Murphy from Lloyd Pharmacy Clinical Homecare, and the Team Excellence of the Year Award, sponsored by Iqvia, presented to Julie Ballard, Amanda Alexander, Vicci Spence and Kim Matthews from Inizio.
Towards the end of the ceremony, Kate Kelly, Inizio Engage’s Managing Director for the UK and Ireland, took to the stage to present two additional NIEA awards – ‘Nurse of the Year’ and ‘Team of the Year’ – in which Kelly recognised nursing professionals for having “tremendous passion for their work” and “driving innovation and exceptional change for patient outcomes”.
The Nurse of the Year award went to Caroline McGlynn of Inizio, who also received the Excellence in Leadership award. Commenting on her achievement, she said: “I am not alone in receiving this award. I am fortunate to work with an incredible team that makes a difference to patients’ lives every day. To be recognised for my achievements after so many years in nursing in this industry is really special for me.”
The second award, Overall Team of the Year, was won by Natalie Bingham, Jade Mikkelsen and Holly Murphy from Lloyd Pharmacy Clinical Homecare, marking their second win at the ceremony.
The team commented: “We are incredibly happy to win this award – it’s the result of a lot of team effort and long hours of work. This achievement, combined with being surrounded by so many medical professionals who are passionate about the same thing, reminds us why we do the work we do.”
Vincent Lody, managing director of PharmiWeb and NIEA judge, commented: “There was so much passion in both of our winners – they both really care and really wanted to make a difference to help patients. I was blown away by Caroline’s professional, innovative and inspiring attitude and really impressed with their (Lloydspharmacy Clinical Homecare’s) entry and the efforts they put in to make it happen.”
The event concluded with an afternoon of celebration and networking to mark the conclusion of the MSEA and NIEA Awards presentations.
