A long-standing partner of Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma Maldives, Music in Paradise will host its 10th anniversary event, Stranded in the Maldives, from 1-11 September 2024. Seven intimate shows featuring Australian icons such as Jimmy Barnes, Ian Moss, Kate Ceberano, Troy Cassar-Daley and Mahalia Barnes will entertain a packed house of 250 guests on the private island paradise.
There’s no better place to get stranded in the Maldives for a 10-night getaway in paradise than Kandooma. Add in some big name artists and guests are in for a blast celebrating. Party-goers will enjoy seven exclusive, intimate sunset/evening shows across the 10 nights, plus a few nights off where guests and performers can mix and mingle and enjoy all the fantastic activities at the award-winning resort.
Kandooma’s ‘Stranded in the Maldives’ is a one-of-a-kind experience where guests can meet Australian music legends and get the chance to get autographs and professional photographs.
“Kandoooma has a long-standing relationship with the Music in Paradise team and we celebrate 10 years of successful music events on the island. We can’t wait to see Jimmy, Ian, Kate, Troy and Mahalia return to the island in September and perform in front of packed crowds,” said Mark Elleter, General Manager of Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma Maldives and a secret Jimmy Barnes fan.
“Those lucky enough to secure a confirmed booking will enjoy a one-of-a-kind 10-night stay. The Music in Paradise team has made careful decisions to limit capacity to ensure an intimate atmosphere, access to performers and a relaxing beach party atmosphere where guests can hang out with some of the biggest names in music.”
“Nothing compares to chatting over sunset cocktails with performers you’ve admired for decades. I grew up listening to Cold Chisel’s music and I’m just quietly excited to welcome them back to Kandooma. Their last visit was incredibly fun and I can’t wait to see them again,” he added.
The 10th anniversary lineup for “Stranded in the Maldives” includes performances by the following artists:
Jimmy Barnes is a Scottish-Australian rock singer-songwriter. His career as lead singer of the rock band Cold Chisel (joined at age 16 in 1973) and as a solo performer (since 1984) has made him one of the most popular and best-selling artists in Australian music history. In 1984, his debut solo album Body Swerve topped the charts, as did his album Working Class Man two years later. His number one hits continued throughout the late 80s and 90s with Freight Train Heart, and the live sets Barn Storming, Two Fires, Flesh and Wood, and Soul Deep. Jimmy Barnes has received five Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) awards throughout his career, including induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2005. In 2017, he was made an Officer of the Order of Australia for outstanding contributions to the performing arts and his support for not-for-profit organisations and children with disabilities.
Ian Moss enjoys a status as Australia’s best guitarist. Primarily known as a guitarist with exceptional tenacity and a sweet sensibility for melody, Ian has a distinctive soulful, bluesy vocal. In 1973, he answered a shop window advert and joined Cold Chisel, a band that would achieve legendary status in Australia. After the band’s Last Stand tour in December 1983, Ian Moss evolved into a solo artist. In 1989, he released “Tucker’s Daughter”, a collaboration with Don Walker, which spent 11 weeks in the top 10 and two weeks at number 1. His second solo single, “Telephone Booth”, was released in June 1989 and also reached the top 10.
Kate Ceberano is the first Australian woman to be inducted into the Australian Songwriters Association (ASA) Hall of Fame. She has released 28 albums, 13 of which have gone platinum and eight gold. She has received no shortage of awards and accolades, including three ARIA Awards and three Countdown Awards. Kate fronted the influential band I’m Talking on their epic Australian Made tour with INXS and Bernethy and the Divinyls, appeared on JC Superstar with Farnham, hosted her own hit TV show Kate & Friends, and won Dancing with the Stars. Kate is an inspiring performer who joins the ranks of artists who have had top 10 albums across five decades.
Troy Cassar Daly is a proud Gumbayngir/Bundadjalung man from a long line of storytellers who has been making music for over 30 years and releasing 11 studio albums. His passion to write stories about Australia and what lies at its heart has driven his career. He has won a record-breaking 40 Golden Guitar Awards, five ARIA Awards including 2021 Country Album of the Year by The World Today, three APRA Song of the Year Awards, nine Deadlies (Australian Indigenous Artist Awards), four CMAA Entertainer of the Year Awards and two National Indigenous Music Awards. Troy has achieved an astounding 34 number one charting singles and his songs are recognised as the soundtrack to the everyday triumphs, struggles and good times of Australians from small towns to big cities.
Mahalia Barnes has been involved in music her whole life. She credits her diverse musical exposure, from Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett and Sam Cooke to Ike and Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Donny Hathaway and Stevie Wonder, with helping to shape her into the powerful soul and blues vocalist she is today. Mahalia and her band, The Soulmates, have released three full-length albums and several EPs and continue to play to sold-out crowds across Australia. They have toured supporting artists such as Bruce Springsteen, The Roots, Mavis Staples, Joe Bonamassa, Bryan Adams and Tom Jones. Mahalia has recorded and toured with countless artists, including Joe Bonamassa, Liam Gallagher, George Benson, Robert John + The Wreck, Cold Chisel, Jimmy Barnes and Lachie Dooley.
