Swimsol solar panel installation heralds a new dawn for permanent clean energy
In partnership with Swimsol, the Maldives’ leading solar power provider, a total of 1,937kWp of additional solar panels will be commissioned this October. 1MWp of panels will be installed on land on the eastern side of the island, while a further 937kWp will be installed on the rooftops of all the resort’s beach villas and F&B outlets, FLOW Spa, Dive Centre, Portico, Kids Club and Backyard buildings. An additional 2MWh of battery capacity will enable the property to run solely on solar energy during the day.
Coral Conservation and Ghost Net Project
Patina Maldives is committed to protecting marine biodiversity through extensive coral conservation activities. By introducing coral pottery workshops for children with special needs, the resort has fostered a unique blend of education and environmental conservation. Partnering with local NGOs, these workshops encourage young people to contribute to conservation efforts, creating a lasting impact on both the local community and the environment. Additionally, ongoing coral planting activities continue to enhance the marine ecosystem, promoting the health and diversity of coral reefs around the island.
The resort’s Ghost Net Project tackles the critical issue of marine plastic pollution. By collecting ghost nets and transforming them into bracelets to give away to guests, Patina Maldives is raising awareness about the dangers of plastic waste and encouraging collective action to protect the oceans. These efforts are more than just environmental action; they represent the resort’s commitment to fostering a sustainable future and inspiring others to join in making a difference.
Resort Construction and Engineering
Since its inception, the development of Fari Islands has been guided by sustainable architecture and design. It is the world’s largest hospitality project to make extensive use of an off-site manufacturing technique called “Mass Engineered Timber” or “MET”, which has reduced carbon emissions by over 6,000 tonnes after manufacturing and transportation. Additionally, all villas are prefabricated, minimizing runoff into the marine ecosystem. Unlike traditional thatched roof structures common in the Maldives, the villas and amenities are designed with flat roofs, allowing for easy installation of solar panels. This allows Fari Islands to host one of the newest and largest solar installations in the Maldives.
