A recall of sesame products has been expanded to 15 more varieties, including Costco’s popular beef dish, due to the possibility of them containing Salmonella.
“We are working hard to identify and contact businesses that received the affected sesame seeds from the importer, Davis Trading Company,” New Zealand Food Safety Authority deputy director Vincent Arbuckle said.
“This can be a complex process given the number of companies involved. There are currently a number of recalls relating to different food companies listed on the New Zealand Food Safety Authority’s food recall webpage.”
The recall also includes Costco’s popular marinated beef bulgogi dish, according to the New Zealand Food Safety Authority.
“Costco Wholesale New Zealand Limited is recalling certain lots of Kirkland Signature Marinated Beef Bulgogi due to the potential presence of Salmonella. This product contains sesame seeds supplied by Davis Trading Company Limited.”
“This is an ongoing issue and additional recalls are possible. Concerned consumers can visit our recall page for the latest information, including photos, or subscribe to our recall alerts to receive email updates on recalls,” Arbuckle said.
“Salmonellosis can cause serious illness so please return the product to the place of purchase or discard it.”
“Symptoms of Salmonellosis appear within 12-72 hours and include abdominal cramps, diarrhea, fever, headache, nausea and vomiting. Illness usually lasts for four to seven days, but severe cases can last up to 10 days and cause more serious illness.”
If you have any concerns about your health after eating this product, please contact a medical professional or call Healthline on 0800 611 116.
The New Zealand Food Safety Authority has not received any notification of any associated illnesses.
“The New Zealand Food Safety Authority will, as is standard practice, work with Davis Trading Company to understand how the contamination occurred and to prevent it happening again,” Mr Arbuckle said.
