World Clean Up Day 2024 will take place on September 20th, bringing together volunteers from around the world to continue their mission of clearing trash from the planet. The event, which began in 2018, has seen more participants every year, with 19.1 million people from 211 countries and territories expected to take part in the event in 2023. This year, the main event will take place on K. Dhiffushi Island in the Maldives.
World Clean Up Day harnesses the power of volunteers to clean up trash and unwanted waste from beaches, rivers, forests and roads. The event emphasizes collaboration and partnerships, bringing together citizens, businesses and government agencies.
In 2023, the Maldives hosted a record-breaking event with 22,000 participants from across the country, with the main event held at Himmafushi in Kaafu Atoll. This year’s event at K Dhiffushi aims to build on that success, involving even more participants and achieving even greater impact.
Organizers stress that the event is not just about cleaning up the environment, but also about fostering a sense of community and responsibility, and they invite everyone to get involved. Participants will join millions of others around the world in a 36-hour Green Wave cleanup that will begin in New Zealand and finish in Hawaii.
World Clean Up Day continues to demonstrate the power of collective action, where every individual’s contribution adds up to a major impact on the world.
