According to the Ministry of Tourism, the Maldives saw a 14% increase in tourism in July, with 160,000 people visiting the islands, a notable increase from 140,000 in July last year and an additional 20,000 visitors this year.
The increase comes after declining figures over the past two months, signaling a positive trend for the hospitality industry.
From January to July this year, the Maldives welcomed 1.1 million tourists, a 9.6% increase compared to the 1 million tourists expected in the same period in 2023. The government has set an ambitious target of 2 million tourists by the end of the year, which calls for an average of 180,000 visits per month in the remaining months.
So far this year, China has led the way in tourist numbers with 157,000, followed by Russia with 125,000 and the UK with 104,000.
