In a strategic move to counter Donald Trump’s growing popularity within the cryptocurrency community, Democrats have launched the “Crypto for Harris” campaign, FOX Business reported. Next week, Crypto for Harris will host a virtual town hall with prominent cryptocurrency advocates, including Mark Cuban and Anthony Scaramucci, as well as several Democratic congressional representatives. The event is aimed at discussing outreach strategies and fundraising efforts for the Harris campaign. FOX Business said members of Kamala Harris’ campaign are also scheduled to attend the upcoming meeting.
As the presidential race between Harris and Trump heats up, Trump has been getting some major support in the Bitcoin and crypto space. Trump recently spoke at the main event of the Bitcoin 2024 conference in Nashville, where he raised tens of millions of dollars and pledged to create a strategic Bitcoin reserve if elected president in November. There are an estimated 50 million Bitcoin and cryptocurrency holders and users in the United States, and both the Democratic and Republican parties will be doing everything in their power to capture their votes. Earlier this May, Donald Trump Said “I am a cryptocurrency Bitcoin It will be made in the United States… I support the right of self-governance for the country’s 50 million cryptocurrency holders.”
“We’re not going to leave this issue up to President Trump,” Democratic U.S. Rep. Wiley Nickels told Fox Business. “We want to encourage innovation and protect consumers, but using cryptocurrency as a political tool will only set America back even further.”
FOX Business has learned that Harris has added two cryptocurrency advisers to her campaign in an effort to counter Trump’s influence: David Plouffe, who served on the advisory board of Binance, and Gene Sperling, a former director at Ripple.
Kamala Harris’ campaign staff did not respond to FOX Business’ request for comment at the time of publication.
