I have the text image, videoand audioBut tools that do the opposite – generate text from images – are just as useful. Their advantages include:
- Accessibility for the visually impaired,
- Enhance search engine optimization by adding alt text,
- time-saving social media captions,
- Translation language of text in image,
- Editable text from screenshots and scanned documents.
Here are my seven favorite image-to-text tools.
Accessibility and SEO
Hugging Face image to text conversion. AI-based image understanding is helpful, but it’s still new and imperfect. Hugging Face’s Image-to-Text uses AI to provide a short description of your image. Upload your image and the tool will describe it for you. Image-to-Text is available in a free version and a premium version starting at $9 per month.
Chat Photos It is a premium iOS app that creates descriptions from photos. It includes an AI chat feature that interacts with images uploaded from the camera. You can ask questions about words in the photo and prompt them to create more detailed descriptions, Instagram captions, and product specifications. The app supports multiple languages and costs $14.99 per month for unlimited chats.
Social Media Captions
caption is a freemium phone app that creates captions for social media. Upload a photo, choose a caption style, and CaptionIt generates a caption based on those settings and your photo. This tool has increased productivity and improved the quality of your captions. The free version of CaptionIt is limited; the (much) more powerful Pro version costs $1.99/month.
translation
Google Translate A popular free web-based tool for translating text only or images.
This tool detects text (typed or handwritten) on an image and generates the translated image, or just the text, in the language of your choice. Translation is done by Google Search app.
Extracting Text
Text extraction tools aren’t new — many screen readers include them — but AI brings improved accuracy for accessibility, alt tags, video scripts, and more.
NanoNet A free browser tool, Image to Text Generator can process any image up to 30MB in seconds into a downloadable text file. The tool can also extract handwritten text, but the results were inconsistent in my testing. Nanonets also offers a free Google Chrome extension.
Google Lens It’s a free mobile alternative to Nanonets, which also incorporates a search app. Allow the app to access your photos, select images and navigate. Text > Select All > Copy Text.
Image to Text Converter Extract text from screenshots, free and no registration required.
If your image has too much text, consider extracting it and pasting it. ChatGPT As for the summary.
