Thanks to the generous support of over 600 members of the Naked Capitalism community, we’ve cleared the first hurdle – critical budget for IT support and defense, the second hurdle – support for a comments section, and are gaining funding at an increasingly faster pace to continue the third hurdle – an expanded links section.
We’ve seen a significant increase in donations, with many of you accepting the challenge to double your giving in 2024. We’re also excited to see even more new donors than in past years. Still, while the average donation is higher than last year, our overall total is just short of our goal. For all of our loyal donors who haven’t donated yet, can you help us reach our goal and keep the site vibrant?
A miscommunication between Lambert and Thermometer about our last goal meant that it showed a much lower amount than we actually wanted, so after a campaign spurt to double our donations, we were already at $24,675 and had $27,000 in funding for our guest bloggers, so we’re just a few steps away from topping off this goal and giving them a financial pat on the back. By going directly to the tip jar! I also really appreciate the kind words in the comments section.
As long-time readers know, we’ve been working to improve the quality of our contributing writers to Naked Capitalism over the years. We give our mainstays Lambert, Conor, Nick and KLG generous honoraria from fundraising efforts. We work on the old Wall Street partnership model: a guaranteed, nominal level of compensation, plus a bonus that reflects how well they and the site have performed during the year. They have each worked to significantly shift their own coverage, both in focus and level of output, to align with the stresses of the many disruptive forces affecting the environment, geopolitics, finance, economy and domestic affairs.
Where would we be without Lambert periodically donning his yellow boots to help maintain our collective sanity amid this fiercely volatile, propaganda-heavy election and the government tweets about Covid-19 (and now Epidemic Keratosis and Avian Flu)? He’s also kept up other regular topics like permaculture, Zeitgeist Watch (including a review of Apple’s “Crush” advert) and newer things like labour action.
Connor broadens the scope of Naked Capitalism, and his discussion of America’s geopolitical failures has been well-received, particularly in German politics (such as the AfD and Zahra Wagenknecht parties), Turkey, Italy, and how we lost the war over the Black Sea.
Nick continues to provide extensive international coverage focusing on payments and banking, including Mexico’s more overt defiance of the US such as restricting GMO corn, the Millay unrest, Nigeria’s digital currency crisis and the UK rethinking its ‘no cash’ plans after the Crowdstrike disaster.
KLG continues to peel back the veil on questionable practices in medical and bioscience research.
While we pay our contributors generously to help us keep our site on a regular schedule, writing is not a particularly high-paying job. Our guest bloggers regularly provide fast, in-depth analysis, but they can only do so thanks to their extensive experience and expertise.
I would also like to extend a financial “thank you” to Thomas Neuburger and the other authors whose work appears here.
I would like to share some encouraging messages from readers:
I sent $200. I visit Naked Capitalism daily and, as others have commented, the news is devastating but reading the comments of others who are “seeing the same thing” is spiritually therapeutic.
Naked Capitalism will be hearing many more messages from me in the coming months, most likely angry responses to egregious violations of the First or Fourth Amendments.
And the left-wing mole:
While all my relatives are dishing out insane TDS and spewing Russiagate nonsense, my morning read here on the west coast is “Naked Capitalism.” Your site keeps me sane and grounded in reality at a time when our beautiful country is heading for ruin on all fronts, politically and for the poor and working class.
And from Barefoot Charlie:
What amazes me about NC is that it just keeps getting better. Nick and Connor, with their rare talents for thinking and writing clearly about our battered empire, keep bringing us more and more news about what we’re doing to the world. Plus, Michael Hudson keeps us up to date on the fate of the debt empire with a view of the last 5000 years. I’m forever grateful for all that Eve, Lambert and others have done for us over the years, even though there’s just so much to learn here and so little time.
Thank you all for everything, you are worth more than money.
We appreciate your recognition of the skill and dedication of our writers Heartfelt thanks in a tip jarThey are our workforce and deserve our deepest gratitude.
