Yes, I’ve been here since late 2007. I don’t usually comment much; I have a job, kids, and a lot of other stuff to do. But I will say that Eve had it in her head more than anyone else. I had just started a new job at a major bank, and I was on a conference call with the money center desk about the fact that they couldn’t get Treasury bills for their clients. I had to ask myself, “Why on earth can’t we get Treasury bills?”
The only one who offered a coherent explanation was Eve Smith, who wrote a number of detailed and explanatory posts stating that “No one trusts each other anymore because of counterparty risk, but the US Treasury prints US dollars so there is no counterparty risk.”
Me: “But why do the other parties not trust each other anymore?”
Eve: “Because no one knows who has worthless subprime mortgages and no one wants to take the risk.”
At that point, I realized I was reading the blog of an analyst who knows how to cut through the bullshit at the critical moments; and, more importantly, the kind of analyst who can tell you when the critical moments are coming. Okay, sure, Eve/Lambert aren’t always right about everything. But you’re not here for 100% accuracy; you’re here for a group of people (nurtured and cultivated by Eve and Lambert) who are truly using their brains and trying to figure out what’s going on in the world at any given moment. And, as you can see from the comments above, we are willing to cite sources and acknowledge their limitations.

A few readers have returned envelopes with properly addressed checks in them. I’m so sorry. I had my rep in Brooklyn go to the post office where my PO box is located, which is pretty awful (she discovered that 2 of the 5 people there barely know anything) and escalate the issue to get it resolved. Hopefully, things will be smooth sailing now.
