The doors will open and the secrets will be revealed to a unique new hospitality experience that is set to take Leamington by storm.
Hush is a lively, inviting, speakeasy-inspired underground bar that transports guests back to the Prohibition era of 1920s and 30s America.
The owners of the town’s newest venue, which offers five-star service, an upscale cocktail menu and a contemporary live music experience, are giving an early behind-the-scenes look before it officially opens as a private members-only bar in January. We’re inviting people to do that.
The disused 40m space below The Terrace has been transformed into a new speakeasy bar, nearly 10 years after The Robin’s Well Cellar Bar closed.
Promising unparalleled service in the area, the venue boasts an extensive drinks menu specially curated by Hush General Manager Matthew Nisbetts and Bar Manager Bethany Gaunt. Highlights of the 25 innovative cocktails include many Prohibition-themed cocktails such as the Flapper in the Frolic Pad and Flapper in the Frolic Pad. Masu. Old-fashioned Mrs. Grundy. Bootleggers Blush; Peaching the Bulls – A term used to call the police in secret language – Margarita the Bearcat – Slang for a feisty, fierce woman, Javanese the Dewdropper – A night’s sleep after the speakeasy A cup of coffee that invites you.
Bethany said: If someone wants a drink with a specific type of note, all members of our team have the knowledge to suggest something. No need to run back to the bar. Because it just spoils the experience.
“But we wanted it to be a place where you can go beyond just what’s on the menu and say, ‘I really like this cocktail, but I’m not having it right now, so could you try one of the mocktails?’ I am. , both bar staff and floor staff will do it for you. We want to be able to offer it to our customers, but not every bar has the freedom to do that. ”
The extensive drinks menu includes 13 gins, 13 rums and 25 whiskies, from regions ranging from the west coast of Scotland, Ireland and England to Japan.
We offer over 20 wines, many by the glass, as well as fine sparkling wines and champagnes by the bottle, such as Laurent-Perrier Grand Siècle and Dom Pérignon.
The venue, which will be open to private members from 5pm to 2.30am on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from New Year in the run-up to Christmas, offers a glimpse behind the innocuous, unmarked black doors on Victoria Terrace. Everyone is invited to do so. Step inside and you’ll be greeted by a 1920s/30s atmosphere, mood lighting, staff in period costume, and melodious live jazz music performed nightly by saxophonists, pianists, and singers.
The biggest nods to this era were accented with plush booth seating, cozy nooks, curtains, mirrors and backdrops of murals and artwork recreated by talented Leamington artist Gemma Grao , a stunning Art Deco design throughout.
Gemma said: “I really loved creating the artwork for this amazing new bar, the brief was to make people feel like they were transported back to the ’20s with flapper girls and a jazz vibe.
“As you enter the venue, you are taken on a journey through the venue, from the hand-painted murals in the ladies room, the original art canvases laid out, to the black and gold textured walls in the VIP room. A true sobriety in your 20s. It’s a law theme.
Private spaces are also available for hire outside of core hours, including the Blind Tiger Room (another name for a speakeasy) and areas reserved for events and corporate use.
Leamington native Matthew Nisbet has held a variety of hospitality roles at Stratford venues including The Woodsman and The Officer’s Mess before arriving to lead Hush’s experienced team .
He said: “If you compare the amount you spend on cocktails here, the quality of the ingredients, the effort and time it takes to make them, it’s great value. But it’s not just the drinks themselves, it’s about finding the unmarked door and getting your first drink.” The whole experience is important, from the moment you order to the moment you leave the store.
“Our USP is recreating a certain nostalgic quality of the speakeasy Gatsby-like style of the 1920s. It’s luxurious and a little provocative, in a fun way. We’re trying to be playful and light-hearted. But also to be very secretive, because while you can easily find this kind of thing in London and the larger cities, I think there’s a gap in Leamington and the wider area. We’re trying to target that niche.
“But we’re delighted that Leamington’s biggest secret is now open to the public. Hush has been kept secret for a long time and we’re delighted that it’s finally open to the public and people can go inside. A lot of planning and effort has gone into it and we are eager to get this party started.”
