Mumbai/Chennai, January 3, 2025: Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), India’s premium and smart mobility solutions provider, transported 26% of its total wholesale volume in the country through rail freight in 2024, amounting to 1,56,724 units. This resulted in a reduction of 18,352 tons of CO.2 Reduce emissions by 2024 by effectively optimizing the proportion of rail transport (versus road transport) in logistics, such as using 100% rail transport for shipments to the northeast region of India.
Commenting on the announcement, Tarun Garg, Whole Time Director and Chief Operating Officer, Hyundai Motor India Limited said,“At HMIL, we have relentlessly sought to drive sustainability in every aspect of our operations, be it manufacturing, dispatch, sales or after-sales support.We have leveraged Indian Railways’ extensive rail network to bring Hyundai vehicles to Sri Lanka in Chennai. We effectively prevented 18,352 tonnes of carbon dioxide by shipping from our Luangbadur factory to multiple locations across India.2 Emissions will be reduced in 2024 and 1,56,724 units will be emitted in the process. As the Indian government continues to upgrade its rail infrastructure with dedicated freight corridors and modern energy-efficient rolling stock to ensure faster movement of goods, HMIL continues to leverage rail freight to optimize its logistics operations. , we are working to lead to long-term emissions reductions. ”
HMIL has shipped a total of 5,37,499 units by rail in the last four years.
