google now block Third party organic rank tracking tool. Here’s how to monitor your rankings in Search Console.
1. Activate the “Average position” option.
By default, rankings are not displayed under Performance in Search Console. report. To enable it, click the (Average Position) option at the top of the performance graph. When checked, the site’s position for each search query will be displayed.
2. Understand “average rank”
Google’s “average position” can be confusing. In some cases, the average position may show something like ‘1’ or ‘2’, but there is no actual traffic for the query. That’s because Google’s search results are dynamic and personalized, giving you:
- New content will temporarily appear at the top of search results.
- Top page for recently visited searchers.
In these examples, a rank of “1” or “2” in the performance graph is typically short-lived.
3. Exclude branded searches
Create a filter to exclude Inquiries regarding brand name From the organic search ranking report.
- Click the Filter icon above the report.
- Select Top Queries.
- Select “Does not contain” in the dropdown.
- Enter your brand name and click Done.
4. Report limitations
By default, the Average Position report lists all URLs. To analyze a specific page:
- Click (Add Filter) above the performance graph.
- Select “Page”.
- Select “Contains URL” from the dropdown.
- Paste the URL string (excluding the domain name) and click Apply.
Performance reports will now include only pages that contain that URL string.
5. Export ranking data
Search Console retains your data for 16 months. For access beyond that period, please export the report periodically.
Search Console can export data, including averages, directly to Google Sheets. position and number of clicks for a certain period of time. Unfortunately, the export doesn’t include the URLs ranked for these queries, so it’s not particularly useful.

To create an export:
- Install the app.
- Open a new Google Sheet.
- Click Extensions.
- Click Search Sheet Analytics from the list.
- Click Open Sidebar.
- Select a date range and add “Query” and “Page” to “Group by”.
Add more filters as needed. The screenshot below limits the report to search queries that include “free”.
Filters are the same as in the native Search Console version, including (i) limiting exports by keywords in queries or URLs, (ii) excluding queries that contain specific words, and (iii) restricting data to countries or devices.
Additionally, the app provides automatic backups in a new tab. The app’s free plan allows you to run unlimited backup requests of 25,000 rows each. This is more than enough for most sites.
