On Saturday, June 8, more than one billion people around the world will be moved by Global Wellness Day 2024. Founded in 2012 by Bergin Aksoy, this international celebration is a non-profit social project aimed at promoting healthier and better lives. Global Wellness Day aims to encourage individuals and society to focus on healthy living, achieving inner peace, and overcoming harmful habits and stress. Celebrated every year on the second Saturday of June, millions of people in more than 170 countries take part in different activities.
This year marked the first for Julia Ivankovic, Co-Founder of Bliss Maldives and Global Wellness Day Ambassador for the Maldives. She said she was thrilled by the enthusiastic participation from numerous resorts and the different nationalities who came together for the occasion. It was a day filled with joy for children and adults alike, showcasing the diversity and strength of the community. The ambassador expressed her gratitude to the supporters of Hulhumale who donated their time, energy and positivity to make the day a memorable one.
Wellness is about doing small things every day, but just one day can have a big impact on your life. Themed #MagentaNature, the activity aimed to encourage healthier habits, provide an opportunity for self-reflection and bring the community together. The ambassadors’ main goal was to make wellness accessible to all, emphasizing that health and well-being should be universally enjoyed. We hope that the wellness initiative on June 8th will be incorporated into everyday life, and we are planning more wellness opportunities for Global Wellness Day in 2025.
Among the many activities, a children’s arts and crafts session using recycled materials and ocean energy was a highlight. A mindful breathing workshop allowed participants to step away from their daily routine for 60 seconds, introducing new breathing techniques and encouraging present-moment awareness. Experts shared their expertise and lifelong missions, leaving a lasting impact on participants.
Children’s wellbeing was a central concern, and activities were designed to create lasting positive experiences based on natural health and wellbeing. This included handing out green apples and serving organic sparkling tea for communal celebrations. These moments fostered learning, connection, and a sense of responsibility towards the world and people.
The first-ever Global Wellness Day Ambassador and proud Maldivian resident expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all those who contributed and supported in making the day a success, with special thanks being given to participants from the local community, especially the parents who brought their children along, for their enthusiastic and energetic participation in the Global Wellness Day celebrations.
