The media has been abuzz about President Trump’s recent endorsement of Bitcoin.
Looking at the Bitcoin recognition data (See table below.)While coverage of Bitcoin and President Trump has increased each month so far this year, last week caused a stir as Trump’s support for the president seemed to amplify the anti-Bitcoin bias that already existed among some in the media.
Forbes, Fox and CNBC reported on President Trump’s move as a positive step toward strengthening U.S. energy security and economic power, highlighting the potential for Bitcoin mining to increase energy dominance and act as a defense against centralized digital currencies.
In particular, Fox News and Forbes have highlighted Bitcoin’s strategic benefits that align with libertarian and conservative values.
The Independent and The Washington Post, on the other hand, are skeptical.
They suggest that Trump’s support for Bitcoin is a ploy to garner political and financial support, noting that Trump, who once rejected Bitcoin, now supports it and sees it as an opportunistic change of course.
Media polarization makes it difficult for the public to get a balanced view: Pro-Trump media focuses on Bitcoin’s benefits while anti-Trump media seeks to undermine Trump’s motives, reflecting a broader political divide.
Historically, left-leaning media has criticized Bitcoin primarily on environmental grounds, arguing that bitcoin mining consumes too much energy and harms the planet.
But now Trump has emerged as their main target, as these media outlets question his motives, viewing his pro-Bitcoin stance as a calculated political move rather than a genuine endorsement.
