The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Island has announced a partnership with Saad Amer, renowned climate activist and founder of Justice Environment. With expertise in environmental justice and experience as a UN consultant, Saad Amer comes on board as the resort’s newest Sustainability Champion. He will spearhead a range of guest activations and education initiatives aimed at highlighting the importance of climate action and environmental stewardship.
As the resort’s sustainability champion, Saad Amer will lead efforts to reduce water and energy consumption, inspired by Marriott International’s annual sustainability projects. From July 4 to 11, Amer will be on-site to launch his new role, delivering a series of engaging presentations and activities aimed at raising environmental awareness and fostering a deeper connection to nature among guests and the local community.
“We are thrilled to partner with The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Island to advance their environmental education and sustainability efforts,” said Saad Amer. “Together we will inspire future generations to contribute to the protection of this incredible ecosystem and take action on climate change. It is an honor to work with a resort that is leading the way in luxury and environmental protection.”
A highlight of the visit will be Saad’s “Climate School: A Thought Experiment to Save the Planet,” taking place July 7-9. Inspired by the depths of the ocean and the vastness of the sky, Amer will lead participants in a meditation on our place on Earth and our responsibility to protect it. Drawing on his extensive experience in grassroots climate movements and work with the United Nations, Amer will aim to address global environmental challenges, foster community, shift perspectives and equip participants with practical knowledge and skills. This unique experience will include a sensory journey designed to spark curiosity about the natural world and will be enhanced by insights from the Marriott Sustainability Community, including Marriott marine biologists.
In addition to these thought-provoking sessions, in line with the resort’s mission of promoting environmental education, Amer will also participate in local school programs. He will give customized presentations to various schools around the resort, aiming to inspire the next generation to adopt sustainable practices and become environmental advocates.
Further enhancing The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Island’s holistic approach to sustainability, Saad will participate in an exclusive lunch with marine biology students from Maldives National University and environmental management students from Villa College, which will foster meaningful discussions on important environmental issues and encourage collaboration on sustainability efforts. Additionally, throughout their stay, resort guests will enjoy a sustainability-inspired afternoon tea, resort cocktail hour and special Ritz Kids activities. During this children’s workshop, Saad will educate the resort’s young guests on the importance of climate change.
The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Island is committed to sustainability, marine life conservation and environmental education. The partnership with Saad Amer aligns with the resort’s ongoing mission to provide luxurious yet environmentally conscious experiences for its guests and the entire community. At what has quickly become an iconic hub for green innovation, travelers can expect a sophisticated eco-conscious experience and enjoy amenities that reflect a shared sensibility to live consciously in harmony with nature.
