Licensed prismatic and cylindrical cell technology from GIB
Hyderabad, June 24, 2024: Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies Pvt. Ltd (ARACT), a wholly owned subsidiary of Amara Raja Energy & Mobility Ltd (ARE&M), one of India’s leading battery manufacturers, has signed a technology license agreement with GIB EnergyX Slovakia sro, a subsidiary of Gotion High-Tech Co Ltd. As part of the agreement, GIB EnergyX will license Gotion’s world-class LFP technology for Li-ion cells to ARACT.
The comprehensive agreement will enable Amara Raja to manufacture world-class LFP cells in both cylindrical and prismatic form factors. The scope of the license includes access to cell technology IP, support for the establishment of Gigafactory facilities compliant with latest generation process technologies, integration with Gotion’s global supply chain network for critical battery materials, and customer technical support for solution deployment.
The technology transfer and service support will perfectly complement Amararaja’s efforts towards operationalizing the Gigafactory’s manufacturing capabilities and its advanced research and innovation centre, ePositive Energy Labs, which aims to lead India’s R&D capabilities in this sector. Last year, Amararaja announced an investment outlay of INR 9,500 crore to set up the Amararaja Giga Corridor in Telangana. The company aims to keep its products competitive and current with access to continuous improvements in cell performance and process efficiency throughout the partnership period.
Both Amara Raja and Gotion are shareholders and directors of Innovat, a Slovakian lithium battery technology startup working on advanced applications such as electric aviation and developing a robust “Cradle to Cradle” ecosystem for the battery value chain. GIB, a joint venture between Gotion Hi-Tech and Innovat, recently signed an investment agreement with the Slovak government for the development of the country’s first LFP battery gigafactory.
Goto High-Tech has 8 R&D centers worldwide, 8,000 patented technologies covering the battery industry value chain, and 20 major manufacturing bases worldwide, with a production capacity expected to reach 300GWh by 2025.
