Welcome to a special edition post brought to you by Beau Lebens, Head of Engineering at Woo.
In last week’s dev blog, The latest roadmap and vision for the future of WooCommerceI wanted to share it here as well. That post is a bit technical, so I wanted to quickly explain what it means for WooCommerce merchants.
We’re excited to bring you this next phase of WooCommerce, which stays true to our open source roots and brings even more functionality and extensibility to the core WooCommerce product, with a focus on block-based page building and site customization to provide a better user experience.
If you have any questions, please leave a comment and our team will respond. Here are some of the most important points for store owners and employees:
Give them permission to edit your store
Block-based page building is the future of WordPress and WooCommerce, and we remain committed to it. Blocks make it easy for people who can’t code to build and edit pages, and give you control over managing the content, layout, and merchandising on your site.
Unlike many cloud-based ecommerce platforms, WooCommerce lets you intuitively edit your shopping cart and checkout pages. Cart and Checkout Block.
We are working on further improvements to blocks to make managing your site easier, and we ask developers to make sure that what they work with is compatible with blocks.
Improved user experience
We’ve recently introduced a number of initiatives and features to improve the way you use WooCommerce, from launching a new store to managing it on a day-to-day basis and measuring your success.
- Streamlined onboarding: The number of steps required to start a store with WooCommerce has been significantly reduced. If you want to create a new store, you can do it faster and more efficiently.
- Improved store customization: More native WordPress integration Site Customization Tools This makes it easier than ever to tailor your store to your brand and edit your page layouts. This is an ongoing process, but to check out the new built-in store designer, WooCommerce > Home Click Start customizing button.
- Better product stewardship: our New Product Editor Faster, more intuitive operation with fewer clicks Adding and Editing Products.
- Improved analysis: We’re rethinking how you can understand what’s going on in your store and make your business even more successful. We’ll start by improving the basic analytics capabilities available in WooCommerce. In the long term, we’re looking at how to build a more robust solution.
We’re also working hard to make WooCommerce better for shoppers. These improvements are aimed at helping increase conversion rates by giving your site visitors the best experience possible.
- More accessible stores: We’re investing in improving the accessibility of your WooCommerce storefront to make your store available to as many people as possible.
- Best checkout: We’re continually evolving our block-based checkout to reduce cart abandonment, increase mobile conversions, and simplify the overall experience. We’ve been particularly focused on improving performance, and so far the new checkout has generated several points higher conversion rates than the classic checkout. With upcoming features and enhancements, we hope to achieve even higher conversion rates.
- Better checkout options: We’ve consolidated and simplified local pickup options, improved shopper account creation options, and created integrations that allow for custom checkout fields for more complex needs.
- Improved order confirmation: The order confirmation screen has been redesigned to include shipping details and an order summary, as well as the option for shoppers to create an account after paying for their order.
