Travel + Leisure (T+L) magazine readers have chosen the Maldives as the world’s best travel destination in the annual “World’s Best Awards” survey for 2024. The recognition underlines the Maldives’ position as a premier travel destination known for its natural beauty, accommodation and marine life.
The survey, which generated more than 700,000 responses from 186,000 respondents covering more than 8,700 accommodations, asked readers to rate islands based on criteria such as natural attractions, activities, restaurants, friendliness of locals and overall value. Readers noted the Maldives’ beaches, crystal clear waters and snorkelling and diving opportunities as the most popular.
One T+L reader described the Maldives as a “paradise on earth,” highlighting the landscapes and biodiversity that make the islands a dream travel destination. The Maldives is home to around 3% of the world’s coral reefs, making it a hotspot for marine life and underwater exploration.
