From 23rd to 25th November 2024, The Nautilus Maldives will invite guests to experience an extraordinary fusion of fine cuisine and masterful mixology, led by the creative and visionary Chef Pietro Catalano of Switzerland’s renowned CAAA restaurant. CAAA is a unique story of family, passion and extraordinary tastes.
Exploring Maldivian tuna: from the ocean to fine dining
The event will focus on the rich traditions of Maldivian tuna fishing, which is vital to the local economy and culture. The Maldives is known for its commitment to sustainable fishing practices, with line and line tuna fishing in particular being considered the global standard for responsible fishing. Chef Pietro will create a menu that not only celebrates the exquisite ingredient tuna, but also raises awareness of the environmental issues associated with overfishing and the importance of sustainable consumption. Over the course of a two-night stay at Zeitoun, guests will embark on a culinary journey with two distinct menus celebrating Yellowfin Tuna. Each dish is crafted to elevate this premium ingredient into a gourmet experience.
Commenting on the collaboration, Chef Pietro said: “The exceptional quality of Maldivian Yellowfin Tuna, known for its rich flavour, firm texture and versatility, has always been a source of inspiration and a catalyst for my creativity. Its adaptability offers endless possibilities for culinary expression and allows me to unleash my creativity, from simple and elegant preparations to highly refined techniques. At CAAA, I want to create great dishes that reflect my commitment to both quality and ethical practices, using the finest ingredients and prioritising sustainable suppliers. Sustainably caught Maldivian tuna helps me add ethical values to my creations and is perfectly aligned with The Nautilus’ focus on providing our guests with food that is not only nutritious but also responsibly sourced. Tuna is highly valued as it is rich in lean protein, omega-3 fatty acids and essential vitamins and minerals.”
Sustainable Mixology: Zero-Waste Cocktails with Tastes and Sounds from Around the World
Led by Chef Pietro’s culinary expertise and joined by Elena Catalano and sommelier Stefania Catalano, the trio will create a signature cocktail menu to complement the featured dishes. Rooted in a zero-waste approach, their innovative approach to mixology is influenced by the Mediterranean, Alps and Maldives. Guests can also enjoy signature cocktails and gourmet snacks at the exclusive Nautilus Rising pop-up on the beach.
Pietro Addis, General Manager of The Nautilus Maldives, expressed his excitement: “We are delighted to welcome Chef Pietro Catalano and the core team of CAAA by Pietro Catalano to this special event, a symbol of our hotel’s Art of Bohemia. This is a rare opportunity to experience a unique blend of culinary and mixological artistry in an atmosphere that celebrates creativity and craftsmanship at the highest level.”
