Brave New World
The world is no longer the world. It is a different place than the world you recognized, the world of when you were younger or years ago. Your eyes look out and see familiar things: grass and fields, buildings, rivers and streets. Your mind looks out and sees data. You think, draw conclusions, evaluate, and see what you can be sure reflects, at least in part, the way the world has always been.
But what if only part of what you see reflects the real world? The old things are there, but layered on top of them like an organizational grid, and what if the Lords, the immovable kings, want you to understand through what you see?
Some might call this theft. POLITICO. The New York Times.
What if your organizing grid was made for you, not your own? Would you still consider your thoughts yours? Would you know they weren’t?
A fundamental anxiety
I think Walter Kahn describes our situation best in a recent (paywall-only) article: “America This Week” podcastNear the end, he and Matt Taibbi read a wonderful short story by Delmore Schwartz ( This is Lou Reed) discuss how the present is bound to the past, that our destiny is fixed. This leads them to discuss how the present moment, not the election, is “dangerous.” By itself And not by its consequences, but by something larger, more world-historical.
Here’s Kirn (lightly edited, emphasis mine):
I think this moment is dangerous (as I have seen in the past few years). Machines that make decision-making impossible In the ways that we’re accustomed to. The tools we have to control information, the willingness to use them, the power they have, and the existential threat they pose to the notion of being able to make informed decisions are what fundamentally disturb me.
Social structures that make decision-making impossible create a fundamental anxiety we all feel. Our new connected world has Control ToolsBots are rampant on social platforms, but the extent of their influence is unclear. AI is Disinformation.
Hacked emails released by the group Anonymous alleged that Palantir and two other defense contractors sold the organization’s outside lawyers a plan to snoop on the families of progressive activists, create fake identities to infiltrate left-leaning groups, use bots to scrape social media, and spread disinformation to liberal groups to discredit them.
What should we believe?
Fifth Generation Warfare
what we The world of the super-rich calls it the “information battlefield.” It’s a war on information, on knowledge itself, a war fought in the mind. Western countries, especially the United States, Fifth Generation Warfare For clues about operational capabilities in the information battlefield, see here and hereRegarding states’ willingness to deploy these capabilities, here and here.
Fifth generation warfare (5GW) is warfare waged primarily through non-kinetic military actions such as social engineering, misinformation and cyber attacks, and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and fully autonomous systems. Daniel Abbott describes fifth generation warfare as a war of “information and awareness.”
NATO document “Information War” You will see the following:
What is Information Warfare? … while controlling one’s own information space and protecting access to one’s own information, they obtain and use the enemy’s information, destroy the enemy’s information systems, and disrupt the flow of information.
The information war on the Internet… The Internet enhances and expands the possibilities for obtaining data, defending information, intercepting information, and facilitating the provision of information to both the citizens of a particular country and the international community.
Remember, this was written by NATO, the group that wages these kinds of wars, not the group whose mission it is to protect people from them. Ironically, the document advises victims of information warfare to get out of their “bubbles” by “diversifying their sources of information and sourcing information beyond what the algorithms that regulate social media suggest.”
Daniel Abbott, mentioned above as a leading authority on 5G warfare theory, Written5G warfare will be “fought by manipulating perceptions and changing the context in which the world is perceived,” that in 5G warfare “the losing side may not even realize that it has been conquered,” and that 5G warfare will involve “manipulating the observational context to force the enemy to carry out our will.”
The colonized mind
All of this deserves an essay in itself, but to understand the attempt to colonize the mind in real time, consider briefly the Israel-Gaza war, which was in fact a genocide, not a war (the opening salvo in 5G’s attempt to control thinking).
Israel relies on the American state and its associated ecosystem – its financial and media infrastructure, its vast military industrial complex – to continue the slaughter. What steps does our government take to keep its people compliant while it encourages this carnage?
To answer this, consider how the massacre in Gaza has been covered in the mainstream media. First, they always refer to it as a “war against Hamas.” Second, The disappearance of Israeli complicity In Murder and Death:
How will universities – the connected ecosystems – and the billionaires who control them respond to campus protests against the genocide? Like this.
How will the mainstream media (another ecosystem linked to the information sector) cover these protests? Like this.
Isn’t all this “manipulation of perceptions and changing the context in which the world is perceived” so that “the losing side never realizes that they’ve been conquered”? How many of our fellow citizens are unaware of this takeover? Many? Most?
The only way to resist this colonization is to first recognize the combatants for what they are and then discard the ideas they are spreading. To do that, get out of your bubble (as NATO advises above) and find better news sources.
Eve Smith’s website Google Targeting Convicted in 2024 on demonstrably false charges of promoting “violent extremism” and “hateful content.” Information war on the internet.
And even earlier, in 2016, long before Trump was elected president, The site was criticized, others, By The Washington Post The allegation that they spread “Russian propaganda” to an “American audience.” The allegation is false and immediately Shot downBut be careful who spreads it: information wars.
Naked Capitalism is approaching its 18th year. For many years, it has provided unorthodox news and analysis. For that crime, Naked Capitalism has a target on its back. Naked Capitalism needs your support.
And we need naked capitalism.
As Walter Kahn says, our times are full of difficulties. We are faced with machines that are trying to make decisions impossible. The elite’s desire for control dates back to the most ancient states, but modern technology has given it new scope and new power. Thanks to the Internet and social media, Billions of people joinA world that can be shaped in ways that have never been seen before, and much more easily.
