Southeast Asia’s super app Grab has announced a partnership with. Amazon Web Services (AWS) As a preferred cloud provider.
This partnership aims to support: grab‘s technology-driven growth strategy is being rolled out across its diverse range of services, including mobility, delivery, financial services and digital banking.
With millions of users and driver partners, Grab requires a robust and scalable infrastructure to manage large volumes of transactions and data.
AWS cloud solutions provide Grab with the tools it needs to optimize operational costs, strengthen security, and improve efficiency, including the use of AWS clean rooms for secure and private data collaboration.
Grab processes over 100 transactions, receives 500,000 GPS pings, and processes 50,000 ETA requests every second.
The partnership spans Grab’s operations across eight countries: Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
Grab migrated over 400 backend application services to AWS Graviton2 processors, achieving higher performance while reducing cost and energy consumption.
AWS’s scalable infrastructure supports Grab’s expansion initiatives, including the growth of its digital bank in Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
Malaysia’s GX Bank was established within 16 months and rapidly scaled up to offer services Close to 1 million customers Within one year from the start of operation.
This infrastructure also facilitates the introduction of new features such as advance reservations and group ordering, which improves the convenience and experience of our users.
The partnership will also enable Grab to meet the increased demand for its services and ensure a seamless customer experience during peak periods such as holiday sales spikes.
Grab processes over 200 terabytes of data (equivalent to 200,000 feature films) on AWS every day.
This data supports advanced analytics and machine learning (ML) efforts, enabling superapps to improve the customer experience.
In addition, Grab will leverage AWS’s advanced technologies to drive AI-powered innovation.
By leveraging AWS’s compute infrastructure and machine learning capabilities, Grab powers its services with features such as personalized recommendations, fraud detection, and improved delivery guidance.
Grab’s machine learning platform, Catwalk, is built on Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS) and has deployed over 1,000 AI models.
These models support innovations such as customized restaurant recommendations, loyalty rewards, and fraud prevention for digital banks.
Grab uses large-scale language models (LLMs) to power last-mile delivery guidance, providing drivers with precise drop-off instructions, enabling more trips per hour, and increasing revenue.
Grab also uses AI to generate mouth-watering food descriptions in five of eight markets and improve order completion rates for small restaurants.
These features have increased order completion rates, particularly benefiting smaller and unique sellers on the platform, enhancing their visibility and customer engagement.
“Grab’s growth strategy is based on continuous innovation to meet the needs of our users and partners.
This requires rapid experimentation, ensuring security and stability while ensuring the ability to take advantage of the full potential of emerging technologies like GenAI. ”
Suthen Thomas Paradatheth, CTO of Grab, said:
“By leveraging AWS’s unparalleled operational performance, scalability, and cutting-edge technology, Grab can deliver personalized, seamless transactions to millions of users across the region.
As a leading cloud provider, AWS is uniquely positioned to help Grab optimize price performance, improve operational efficiency, and continually evolve its wide range of data-enabled services. ”
