These enhancements mark an exciting new chapter for Benares as we continue to redefine modern Indian cuisine in London. Led by renowned interior designer Dale Atkinson of Rosendale Design, the renovation breathed new life into this beloved Mayfair landmark and elevated its renowned dining experience to new heights.
Inspired by India’s sacred city of Varanasi, colloquially known as Benares, this renovation transforms the guest experience from the moment they arrive. A striking new entrance and reception area welcomes guests. Featuring vibrant awnings, elegant planters filled with lush foliage, a dramatic candle wall, and an inviting ambience that sets the tone for the upstairs bar and dining room.
The reimagined bar takes center stage with its chic design and bespoke furniture, providing a sophisticated atmosphere for pre-dinner cocktails and long nights in Benares.
Once largely monochrome, the main dining room is now bursting with color and texture. The room features ornate ceiling artwork and intricate backlit jali panels across the walls, breathing new life into the restaurant and evoking the spiritual energy of its namesake city . This energy is harnessed in new designs, bringing color, texture and pattern and injecting them into the space.
Since opening in 2003, Benares has pioneered Indian cuisine, blending the finest British ingredients with authentic Indian techniques and flavours. In keeping with the restaurant’s innovative design, Executive Chef Sameer Taneja has curated an innovative menu that showcases the restaurant’s essence of tradition and craftsmanship. The new menu includes Dam Ka Truffle ShorbaA luxurious winter truffle and rabbit stew. vindaloo Oysters and Goan sausage served with sanna, a steamed coconut and rice bread. And finally, Rasmalai Infused with rose, cardamom, and vanilla. The classic section of the menu also sees the return of popular dishes and traditional curries. Kukkad (Chicken) Makhani and meat korma.

Benares has reopened with a stunning new design and its evolved menu will debut on Monday, February 10th.
