A spa hotel on the Windermere coast has launched a new exhibition featuring two artists from the North West.
The Art in the Atrium gallery at Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa features works by Tina Balmer from Ulverston and Rebecca Scott from Windermere.
The free exhibition, called Still Life – A Celebration, which runs until the end of July, is organized by English Lakes Hotels, Resorts & Venues and Gavagan Art.
Rebecca Scott lives and works between London and Cumbria. She is the co-founder of Cross Lane Project, an independent art space in Kendal.
Her own artwork is held in private and public collections nationally and internationally, and she has exhibited internationally, including in Spain, France, Germany, Sweden, and Norway.
Rebecca’s artistic practice revolves around transforming traditional photographic images into painted works that challenge traditional notions of interpretation and representation. By extracting images from their original context and overwriting their intended meanings, we focus on the language of desire that pervades consumer culture.
Tina has been exhibiting her work since 1998 and has had solo exhibitions at Bruntwood and Kendal Brewery Arts Centers near Coniston. She has also organized various Art She Trails and exhibitions in the North of England, including Print Fest and Art Fest She North.
Her paintings are inspired by the celebration of domesticity, often with objects arranged to create patterns and depth that represent the rituals of everyday life. Tina’s work has been featured in exhibitions across the UK, including the Glyndebourne Festival, and is held in many private collections.
Simon Berry, Executive Chairman of English Lakes Hotel, said:
“Tina’s paintings, in her own words, take on a life of their own, with competing colors, textures, and compositions.Rebecca’s work is biographical in a way, often drawing from experiences she has experienced. It reflects a reaction to the situation. This gallery will provide space for contemplation for art lovers and casual viewers alike.”
Mary Gavagan of Gavagan Art added: From Tina Balmer’s colorful and thoughtful arrangements to Rebecca Scott’s carefully observed studies, both artists use still life as an expressive medium. ”
