Eve is here. One of the problems with protecting your privacy, like masking, is other people. I am very anti-social and am still under pressure to engage in activities that expose too much information. If you’re serious about it, you can’t share the photo and you should avoid having it taken in the first place. You should resist the pressure to use “free” apps like WhatsApp or Line. Because it is considered that data collection is what you are paying for the service. If you don’t drive, it’s a good thing that the plate reader won’t catch you going there and back. The same goes for using cash whenever possible.
This post highlights government efforts to increase surveillance and notes that too often supposedly secure services turn out to be honeypots. You’re really paranoid about apps (I think apps have backdoors, just like phones do; many, such as Line on the Mac, require access to your contacts to function. Like Uber back in the day, you’ll need to opt out of the app from hoovering them up). However, it is difficult to limit the footprint and I have to confess that I am lazy in some ways, such as leaving my phone at home most of the time instead of strictly using Faraday bags. I don’t get it.
