Several organizations have come together to help Ontario farmers reduce the risk of untargeted pesticide applications through the Be Drift Aware campaign.
Drift is the movement of plant protection products into the air away from their unintended targets. This is an issue that can affect crop yield, crop quality, and input costs. Drifting can also negatively impact nearby fields, homes, livestock, and sensitive natural habitats, and cause tensions with neighbors.
Be Drift Aware is produced by Grain Farmers of Ontario, the Ontario Federation of Agriculture, the Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association of Ontario, the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, and CropLife Canada.
If someone sprays, unintentional drift can occur. Implementing best practices could reduce risks, the group said.
Growers and spray operators can access all resources in a new central resource hub www.BeDriftAware.ca. The website includes online quizzes and resources organized around his three main best practices: “Size Awareness,” “Height Awareness,” and “Wind Awareness.” Masu.
Be Drift Aware Partners will share spray drift messages and reminders through established communication channels such as newsletters, social posts, and events, and encourage members to visit the new site and access resources about spray drift. Masu.
